Texas Rapper BeatKing Passes Away at 39 Due to Pulmonary Embolism

Houston rapper BeatKing, known for his booming voice and club anthems, has passed away at the age of 39 due to a pulmonary embolism.

His manager, Tasha Felder, confirmed his death on Friday, August 16 2024 stating that BeatKing, whose real name was Justin Riley, died on Thursday, August 15 2024 after fainting during a recording session.

He was taken to a hospital, where it was determined that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism. “His daughters were with him the entire time,” Felder said. “It is truly sad, we loved him so much.”

BeatKing, affectionately known as Club Godzilla, rose to fame with his energetic and humorous tracks that became staples in nightclubs and on social media.

His biggest hit, “Then Leave,” went viral in 2020, peaking at No. 3 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. He also found success with songs like “Crush” and “Thick.” His final album, Never Leave Houston on a Sunday, was released just last month.

BeatKing began his music career in 2010 with “Kings of the Club,” quickly becoming a favorite in Houston’s vibrant music scene.

While he didn’t achieve the same national prominence as artists like Travis Scott and Megan Thee Stallion, he was widely respected in the South for his authenticity and dedication to Houston’s unique sound.

Throughout his career, BeatKing collaborated with major artists such as 2 Chainz, Bun B, T-Pain, and Ludacris. His influence on the club scene and his larger-than-life personality left a lasting impact on fans and fellow musicians alike.

BeatKing is survived by his two daughters and his partner.
