Tony Bouza wife: Who is Erica Bouza?

After a brief illness, Bouza passed away on Monday at the Amira Choice care facility in Bloomington. Bouza was a former New York City police administrator who oversaw the Minneapolis Police Department in the 1980s with a mission for reform. In the process, he frequently enraged the police union. He was 94.

Bouza promoted aggressive strategies—decoys, stings, and stakeouts—along with more street crime arrests, quicker emergency response, and zealous traffic enforcement throughout his nine-year tenure.

From 1977 to 1979, he was the New York City Transit Police’s deputy chief. Bouza testified for the defense in numerous trials around the nation alleging police maltreatment after he retired from law enforcement.

When Bouza was the chief of police in Minneapolis in the 1980s, his wife, Erica Bouza, a British-born activist against Honeywell, was frequently detained for participating in anti-militarist demonstrations against Honeywell.

Following his resignation as chief, Bouza held the positions of Minnesota’s gaming commissioner from 1989 to 1991 and the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence’s temporary director in Washington, D.C.
