On September 19, 2008, Travis was one of six passengers on a Learjet destined for Los Angeles from Columbia, South Carolina, with close friend and musical partner Adam Goldstein.
The private jet’s takeoff was cancelled because its tyres blew out due to low pressure, sending it swerving over the end of the runway, through a fence, and into an embankment, where it exploded.

Travis revealed in a discussion from 2019: “When the plane blew up, I was in such a haste to get out of the plane that I leapt right into the jet, which was still full of fuel.
“My whole body lit up My entire body was soaked in jet fuel. Travis spent approximately 11 weeks in the hospital after the accident, undergoing 27 surgeries and skin grafts.
