Usher Parents: Meet Usher Raymond III, Jonetta Patton

Usher, whose full name is Usher Raymond IV, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He is the son of Usher Raymond III and Jonetta Patton.

Usher’s father abandoned the family when he was a year old. Usher spent his childhood years with his mother, then-stepfather, and half-brother James Lackey.

When he was nine years old, Usher joined the Chattanooga church youth choir, which was directed by his mother. His grandmother spotted his vocal talent there, but it wasn’t until Usher joined a singing group that she thought he could sing professionally.

Usher’s family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in the belief that a larger metropolis would provide more opportunity for him to showcase his skills.

Usher’s music career began in his teenage years when he was signed by music executive L.A. Reid. He released his self-titled debut album, “Usher,” in 1994, which spawned his first hit single “Think of You.”

His  mother left her job as a medical technician to manage his career. His father Usher Raymond III, died of a heart attack on January 21, 2008

Throughout his career, Usher has received numerous awards and accolades, including eight Grammy Awards. Known as the “King of R&B” by several media outlets, in the United States, Usher has sold over 80 million records globally, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
