Vernon Kay Takes Over BBC Radio 2 Mid-Morning Show as New Host

British TV Host Vernon Kay will henceforth serve as host on BBC’s mid-morning show, after Ken Bruce announced that he would be stepping down.

Kay will begin hosting from March 4, 2023, and will succeed Bruce who is leaving after 31 years of service.

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be handed the microphone to present the mid-morning show on Radio 2, and what an honour to follow in the footsteps of the mighty Ken Bruce”, Kay said.

“I look forward to playing some of the best music in the world whilst in the company of the Radio 2 listeners who I feel I’ve got to know over the last 18 months. It’s a dream come true to join the Radio 2 family and I can’t wait to start”, he added.

Who Is Vernon Kay?

Vernon Kay is a former model turned TV and radio presenter, known for presenting Channel 4’s T4 and many other TV shows for ITV.

Born on April 28, 1974, in Manchester, England, Kay graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, where he studied environmental science. His entertainment career has since cut across modelling, TV and Radio.

On ITV, Kay played host on All Star Family Fortunes, Just the Two of Us,Beat the Star, The Whole 19 Yards, Splash! and 1000 Heartbeats.

On BBC Radio 1, Kay presented his own show between 2004 and 2012, and also on Radio X between 2015 and 2017.

In 2020, Kay appeared on the 20th season of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!. He also made brief appearances in movies such as Shaun of the Dead (2004), Keith Lemon: The Film (2012), and Hercules (2014).

Kay holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton for his contribution to TV and entertainment.
