Victor Payton: Who is Khary Payton’s dad?

Dr. Victor Payton was the father of Khary Payton.

Victor was a Pediatrician who worked as Medical Director at Rivers Crossing, a facility that offered specialized care to young people in need.

Born June 3, 1948, in Savannah, the son of Lois Smith Payton Russell and Reverend Hezekiah R. Payton. He earned his high school education at Saint Pius 10 High School. After completion Victor proceed to Mercer University where he majored in Chemistry.

Victor subsequently studied pediatrics and emergency medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in 1975.

Before joining the US Army, Victor completed his pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center after graduating from medical school.

Dr. Victor opened his private office in 1982, making him the first African American pediatrician in Athens.

Dr. Victor Payton died on September 25, 2021. He was survived by his wife Gwendolyn Middleton Payton and four children Khary Payton, Kurlen Payton, Kurtis Payton, and Kalere Payton.
