Richard Weedt Widmark was born on December 26, 1914, in Sunrise Township, Minnesota, the United States as the son of Ethel Mae Barr and Carl Henry Widmark. He was raised alongside a sibling named Donald Widmark.

Richard Widmark is of Swedish-Scottish ancestry. His father worked as a travelling salesman. Richard schooled at Lake Forest College, where he studied acting, before later graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech in 1936.

Richard Widmark made his debut as a radio actor in 1938 on Aunt Jenny’s Real Life Stories. In. For his role as the villainous Tommy Udo in his debut film, Kiss of Death (1947), Richard Widmark earned an Academy Award nomination and also won the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Richard Widmark has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6800 Hollywood Boulevard and had been inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 2002.

Richard Widmark passed away following a long illness on March 24, 2008, at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut, United States at the age of 93. He was buried at Roxbury Center Cemetery.
