Former Barcelona defensive player Lilian Thuram was “born in Guadeloupe in the French West Indies.”

His family had moved to “mainland France” in the early 80s.
Thuram last played football for the Spanish football club Barcelona.
His entire playing career saw him play for Portugais de Fontainebleau, Fontainebleau, Melun, Monaco, Parma, Juventus, and Barcelona.
Although, he started with Monaco in Ligue 1 as far back as 1991, but ended up spending over 15 seasons playing for France, Italy and Spain.

Thuram was a versatile player that played both centre-back and right-back positions, and both on the offensive and defensive sides.
As a player for France, Thuram appeared in several tournaments including FIFA World Cup, and UEFA European Championships.
Until 2022, Thuram was the most capped player in the history of French football, appearing in 142 matches between 1994 and 2008.
Unfortunately, Thuram resigned from football in 2008, after he was diagnosed with a heart disease. Since retirement, Thuram has been involved in several anti-racism campaigns.
