Ruby Wax OBE, an American-British actress, comedian, writer, television host, and advocate for mental health, was born on April 19, 1953.

Wax, a classically trained actress, co-starred in the ITV series Girls on Top (1985–1986) and spent five years with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Wax first gained notoriety as a humorous interviewer on television programs including The Full Wax (1991–1994), Ruby Wax Meets… (1994–1998), Ruby (1997–2000), and The Ruby Wax Show (2002), where she played on British notions of the abrasive American manner.

She worked as a script editor and guest star in two episodes of the BBC comedy Absolutely Fabulous (1992–2012).
