Stephen William Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, the United Kingdom to Frank and Isobel Eileen Hawking Walker. He had two younger sisters, Philippa and Mary, and an adopted brother, Edward Frank David.

Stephen Hawking began his schooling at the Byron House School in Highgate, London and later attended St Albans High School for Girls for a few months. He began his university education at University College, Oxford when he was 17 years old.

Stephen Hawking received a first-class BA degree in physics at University College, Oxford. At Trinity Hall, Cambridge, He obtained his PhD degree in applied mathematics and theoretical physics, specialising in general relativity and cosmology in March 1966.

Stephen Hawking’s has done scientific works on gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity, as well as the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation.

Stephen Hawking also gained commercial success with several works of popular science in which he discussed his theories and cosmology in general.

Stephen Hawking was a Fellow of the Royal Society, a lifetime member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
