Chinese New Year taboos are lifted after the Lantern Festival, and all New Year decorations are taken down. Some others continue to put off returning to work or school until after the festival.

The lanterns are for people letting go of the previous year and wishing luck for the future one.

What food is eaten during the Lantern Festival?

Yuanxiao or tangyuan, little glutinous rice balls stuffed with fruits and nuts, are mostly consumed during the celebration. The balls’ round shape represents wholeness and harmony within the family.
