Irish comedian and television personality Patrick Kielty was born in Northern Ireland on January 31, 1971. Kielty demonstrated skill in Gaelic football throughout his adolescence and played on the Down GAA minor football team from 1987 to 1989. When the team won the 1987 All Ireland Minor Football Championship, he even filled in as the backup goalie.

While attending St. Patrick’s Grammar School in Downpatrick, Patrick Kielty started his entertainment career. A Games master spotted Kielty’s talent at impersonation and encouraged him to perform more frequently. He started his professional career while a psychology student at Queen’s University Belfast.
In addition to his work in television, Kelty has worked in radio, hosting programs on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4.

The comedian, now 52, was just 16 years old when his businessman father Jack was shot and killed by Ulster Freedom Fighters loyalists in 1988 at his workstation after declining to pay protection money. He was 44 at the time.
