She came to national attention when she competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, winning two gold medals for Great Britain.

She was the youngest member of the team, at the age of 13. At the age of 13, Simmonds was the youngest British athlete at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, competing in the 50m, 100m, and 400m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and 200m Individual Medley.

She won gold medals in the 100m and 400m freestyle events.

Simmonds is a WaterAid ambassador. Britain’s five-time Paralympic swimming gold medallist Ellie Simmonds has insisted that she has “no regrets” over her decision to retire last year despite the attraction of competing in front of a home crowd at the Commonwealth Games.

Retired Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds has taken to the ballroom as she is part of the cast of Strictly Come Dancing 2022.

The athlete confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: ‘I can’t believe I’m writing this! I’m literally bursting with excitement!
