Eventually, only three players returned to the team and participated in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Spain became “world champions of the finals.”

What did Coach Vilda do?

Vilda reportedly failed to create a conducive environment for his team.

In 2015, Vilda was promoted to head coach of the Spain women’s national football team.

Under his management, the team made remarkable performances in international competitions, like the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Spain became “world champions of the finals.”

As a player, Vilda’s playing career only lasted seven seasons from 1991 to 1998, playing for Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano, and Real Madrid.

Vilda additionally serves as “sporting director of the Spanish FA’s (RFEF) women’s national-team system and tactical instructor at their National Coaching School.”
