Sam Huff was a former professional American football linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Born on October 4, 1934, he played for New York Giants and the Washington Redskins.

Huff came out of West Virginia coal country to anchor a defense that acquired the kind of fame that had previously been reserved for strong-armed quarterbacks and elusive runners during his time with the Giants in their golden years of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
During his eight seasons with the Giants, he appeared in six N.F.L. championship games. Three times he was chosen to the all-league team, and he appeared in five Pro Bowls.

Huff was best known for his head-on collisions with two of the game’s best fullbacks, Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns and Jim Taylor of the Green Bay Packers, but he also had 30 career interceptions. In 1982, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
