The British artistic gymnast Louis Smith was born on April 22, 1989. At the Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London, and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, he won a bronze medal, two silver medals, and two gold medals on the pommel horse, the former of which was the first Olympic podium finish for a British gymnast since 1928.

In 2012, he tied Kristian Berki for second place but lost out on gold due to a lower execution score (E). In the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro the following year, he won a second consecutive silver medal on the pommel horse, this time placing second to teammate and 2012 bronze medalist Max Whitlock. In the men’s artistic team all-around competition at the 2012 London Olympics, Smith also competed for Great Britain, which won bronze.
