Ledisi Anibade Young, better known simply as Ledisi, hails from New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America. Ledisi was raised in Oakland, California.

To date, Ledisi has earned a total of fourteen Grammy Award nominations, winning her first award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Anything For You” in 2021.
In 2002, Ledisi also re-released her first album, Soulsinger, as Soulsinger: The Revival on Tommy Boy Records.

In 2006, Ledisi signed with Verve and released “Blues in the Night,” which was included on the tribute album We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song.
In 2007, Ledisi’s album Lost & Found earned her two Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best New Artist. In 2008, she released a Christmas album called It’s Christmas, which included the singles “This Christmas” and “Children Go Where I Send Thee.”
Ledisi has also written two books, Better Than Alright and Don’t Ever Lose Your Walk. Ledisi has played gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the films Selma (2014) and Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story (2022).
