Thomas Jacob Black is an American actor, comedian, and musician. He is known for his acting roles in the films High Fidelity, Shallow Hal, Orange County, School of Rock, Envy, King Kong, and The Holiday.

Who influenced Jack Black?
Black says he grew up listening to Van Halen, but also enjoyed the vocal scat stylings of Bobby McFerrin, who became famous for his ability to sing various voices and instrumentations.
Jack Black’s older brother Howard was a huge inspiration for him, introducing him to rock music when he was young. Tragically, Howard passed away from HIV/AIDS when he was just 31 years old.

The role of Dewey Finn was written for Black and earned him a Golden Globe nomination, and of all the films he’s been a part of, School of Rock seems to be his favorite.
While at UCLA, he was a member of Tim Robbins’ acting troupe & it was this collaboration that led to his 1992 film debut in Bob Roberts (1992).
