Playing 11 seasons in both the National Basketball Association and the American Basketball Association, George F. McGinnis was an American professional basketball player.

The first sophomore to lead the Big Ten in both scoring and rebounds was McGinnis, who played for Indiana in 1970–71.
Announced on April 1, 2017, McGinnis joined Tracy McGrady, Bill Self, and Rebecca Lobo as members of the 2017 class of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. On September 8, he was inducted.

The main cause of McGinnis’s declining health in his final years was back issues that necessitated numerous surgeries. On December 14, 2023, he passed away at the age of 73 from heart problems in a hospital in Indianapolis.
