Who is the new governor of Kentucky in 2023? Meet Andy Beshear

The 2023 Kentucky gubernatorial election was held on November 7, 2023, to elect the governor and lieutenant governor of Kentucky. Incumbent Democratic governor Andy Beshear won re-election to a second term, defeating Republican nominee, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

Beshear’s victory is a testament to the strong personal brand he’s built in an increasingly Republican state. The son of a former governor, he sought to separate himself from national Democrats.

He focused heavily on state and local economic issues, defying political trends and heading into Tuesday’s elections as the slight favorite.

But Beshear managed to maintain the cross-party appeal that won him the highest approval rating of any Democratic governor in the country.
