A lifelong supporter and British Army captain who passed away unexpectedly received tribute from Sunderland.

During his tenure in the military, Major Chris Collier served in the Parachute Regiment.

The ardent Black Cats supporter launched a well-liked supporters page after retiring, and he also experimented with photography.

Additionally, he was a devoted charity activist who participated in many campaigns. He even assisted in saving a woman’s life after she passed out during the 2015 Great North Run.

It is believed that he passed away in his 40s on Sunday morning after suffering a heart arrest.

Sunderland’s official Twitter account shared a picture of Collier giving the thumbs-up to the camera while wearing a team jacket and beanie.

The group penned: “Rest in peace, Chris,” followed by red and white hearts.

Chris is survived by his three young children and his fiancee Samantha.

Plenty of fans also took to social media to send their best wishes to the grieving family – while others are trying to arrange a minute’s applause at the Stadium of Light”
