Who was Gloria Dea? Las Vegas’ first Strip magician dead at 100

Gloria Dea was an actress, dancer, and magician from the United States who is well-known for being the first magician to perform in Las Vegas and for appearing in films during the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Gloria Dea died at the age of 100 on Saturday, 18 March 2023, morning. Dea died at 6:35 a.m. from coronary artery disease. Dea died in hospice care at her home in Las Vegas. Plans for a memorial are still being developed.

Other famous Las Vegas magicians, including David Copperfield and Lance Burton, have paid their respects and paid tribute to her legacy on social media.

Magician legend David Copperfield, who befriended Dea in her later years, said Saturday,

“Gloria was amazing. She was charming funny and engaging,” the MGM Grand headliner said. “And in Vegas, as a young magician, she started it all. It was an honour to know her.”Dea was an only child and had no immediate family.

She was recently given the key to the Las Vegas Strip, which she received on her 100th birthday in August 2022.
