Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most talented wide receivers of all time, he holds the NFL single-season touchdown reception record (23 in 2007), the NFL single-season touchdown reception record for a rookie (17 in 1998) and is second on the NFL all-time regular season touchdown reception list with 156.

Moss was well known for his prowess in securing contested catches, and the word “mossed” has entered football vernacular. Post-football, he began working for ESPN as a studio analyst for its Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown programs.

Why did Randy Moss leave ESPN?

Randy did not leave ESPN but as a part of the new contract that he has negotiated with ESPN, Moss will no longer appear on Monday Night Football broadcasts this season.

Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss will be continuing his broadcasting career at ESPN. However, you won’t see him on the screen as often.

Via Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Moss will still appear on Sunday NFL Countdown. However, he will no longer contribute to the Monday night pregame broadcast. Moss, per the report, made the decision to curtail his contributions during the negotiations that culminated in his new contract.

The Sunday/Monday thing complicates the weekly travel itinerary. Fly to Bristol, fly (in most weeks) to wherever the Monday night game will be played, and fly home. Lather, rinse, repeat. To do the job right, it’s also important to remain plugged into everything happening in the NFL and to have real opinions ready to go. All the time.

Marchand adds that Amazon showed interest in hiring Moss for its Thursday night broadcast. Ultimately, Moss decided to stay put.
