Why Didn’t Bo Nickal Go to the Olympics?
Bo Nickal, the highly accomplished mixed martial artist and former collegiate wrestler, did not have the opportunity to compete in the Olympics. However, he was among the trialists vying for a spot on the US wrestling team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

After a series of qualifying matches, Bo Nickal faced David Taylor in the final round. Unfortunately, he suffered consecutive losses to Taylor. In the best-of-three championship series, Nickal was defeated 4-0 in the first round and 6-0 in the second round, bringing an end to his Olympic aspirations.
It’s worth noting that David Taylor, who emerged victorious over Nickal, went on to secure the freestyle wrestling gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, defeating reigning champion Hassan Yazdani with a score of 4-3.

Despite falling short in the Olympic trials, Bo Nickal has since found tremendous success in the world of mixed martial arts. In just three professional fights, he earned a highly coveted UFC contract.
Prior to his MMA career, Nickal had an impressive wrestling record. He won one national championship at the 2019 US National Championships held in Las Vegas, competing in the 92kg (202.8 lbs) weight category. Additionally, he secured three NCAA Division 1 gold medals during the 2017-19 season, with two golds in the 187lbs category and one gold in the 197lbs division.
In the Big Ten Championships, Bo Nickal earned three gold medals in three different weight divisions. Furthermore, he achieved gold at the 2019 under-23 World Championship in Budapest.
While the Olympic dream may not have materialized for Bo Nickal, his exceptional wrestling career and subsequent success in mixed martial arts showcase his talent, determination, and continued pursuit of excellence in the combat sports realm.
