The historical significance of Dame Floella Benjamin cannot be overstated.

Benjamin, well known as a presenter for children’s shows such as Play School, Play Away, Jamboree, and Fast Forward, was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London in 2008.

In June 2010, she was appointed baroness of Beckenham in the London Borough of Bromley.

She received an OBE in 2001, a Special Lifetime Achievement Bafta Award in 2004, and the J.M. Barrie Lifetime Award in 2012 for her lasting cultural legacy.

She also played a prominent role at Charles III and Camilla’s coronation on Saturday (May 6).

At the ceremony, Floella Benjamin carried the King’s sceptre, also known as the Rod of Equality and Mercy, which signifies his spiritual function.

She gained widespread acclaim for gracefully bearing the sceptre ahead of King Charles’ entrance at the ceremony.

The baroness was spotted wearing a regal-red floor-length gown as she made her way to the front of the service to do her duties.
