William Murray: Who is Andy Murray’s father?

William Murray is the father of British professional tennis player, Andy Murray. He is from Dunblane and is the regional manager of the Scottish newsagent chain, RS McColl. In 1980, he married Judy Erskine.

The couple went on to have two children, Jamie in 1986 and Andy in 1987. Unfortunately, the pair divorced in 2005 after being separated for nine years.

According to Wiliam, both Andy and Jamie took the news of the divorce hard. Despite the public perception of Andy and Jamie Murray having a closer relationship with their um, the pair stayed with their father following the divorce.

In an interview with the Telegraph in 2007, their son said, “They didn’t speak too much and they didn’t get on too well together… they are just two different people”.

Despite their differences, they were seen sharing an embrace following Andy’s first Wimbledon victory.
