Yvon Pedneault, a legendary figure in Quebec’s sports media landscape, died at the age of 77 following a month-long struggle with cancer.

The career of sports journalist Yvon Pedneault included a number of significant achievements. He started off covering bowling in 1965 for a small Chicoutimi newspaper and quickly rose the ranks, eventually landing the position of sports editor at Progrès-Dimanche.

With works in La Presse and Le Journal de Montréal, Pedneault’s flexibility was evident. He created history by being the only person to work full-time for all three of Montreal’s French-language newspapers as well as all of the regional French-language television stations that aired Canadiens games.

He was notable for receiving the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award and serving on the Hockey Hall of Fame selection panel.

Michele Pedneault was the spouse of Pedneault. They were parents to a son and a girl. At the age of 77, Pedneault passed away in Ottawa, Ontario, on August 26th, 2023. He had been battling cancer for a few months, but the cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
