ZZ Top Death: Who from ZZ Top just died?

Dusty Hill, the iconic Texas blues-rock band ZZ Top’s bassist for nearly fifty years passed away at the age of 72 on July 28 2021.

Hill’s death was revealed by the other members of the group, Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard, in a Facebook post. Hill died in his sleep at his house, according to Gibbons and Beard. Following Hill’s wishes, he was replaced by the band’s longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis.

Hill sang, played keyboards, and played the bass guitar in ZZ Top. Gibbons founded the group in 1969, and Hill and Beard joined in 1970.

They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a concert in San Antonio on February 14, 2020, the band’s last engagement before a pandemic caused them to postpone a commemorative tour.

Hill was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2000, and ZZ Top’s European tour was cancelled. Hill went back to work in 2002. As a member of ZZ Top, Hill was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
