Fritz played his first ATP Tour tournament at Nottingham, where he received a wild card and won his first ATP match against Pablo Carreno Busta. He began his season at the inaugural 2020 ATP Cup, representing Team USA. He went 1-2 in singles competition as Team USA was sent out of the tournament in the round-robin stage.
Seeded 20th at the 2022 Australian Open, Fritz reached the fourth round of a Grand slam for the first time after defeating 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut in five sets. As a result, he made his debut in the top 20 in the singes ranking on January 31, 2022.
