The 24-Hour Clock, and Why Timing Matters
A Story is live for exactly 24 hours from the moment it is posted, then Instagram removes it from public view. This is a hard deadline: once the Story expires, the media is no longer served from a public address, so there is nothing left for any downloader to retrieve. A tool that claims it can recover expired Stories cannot do so for content it never saved.
The practical advice is simple: if a Story matters to you, save it the same day. Highlights are the exception: when a creator pins a Story to their profile as a Highlight it stays available indefinitely, and can be downloaded long after the original 24 hours.
Stories and Highlights: What the Difference Means for You
Stories are the temporary photos and videos at the top of the app, capped at 60 seconds per clip and gone after a day. Highlights are Stories the account owner has chosen to keep, grouped into labelled circles on their profile with no expiry.
isav handles both on any mobile device or laptop, provided the account is public. Because Highlights persist, they are the easiest way to save older content. If you missed a Story, check whether the creator added it to a Highlight before assuming it is gone.
What isav Will Not Do
isav does not log in to Instagram, which sets a clear boundary on what is possible. Private accounts are not supported. If a profile is private, its Stories are visible only to approved followers and isav cannot and will not access them. The same applies to Close Friends stories and any content restricted to a follower list.
Because there is no login, your own account is never part of the request. isav is not a viewing tool and does not interact with Instagram on your behalf in any way. It only retrieves publicly available files.
